Estación del Norte

What you will see

Estación del Norte is a modernist-style terminus railway station inaugurated in 1917. It was designed by Valencian architect Demetrio Ribes, who also worked on Príncipe Pío station. It was declared a Historic and Artistic Monument in 1961 and a Cultural Heritage Asset in 1983.

The façade is organised into three prominent bodies shaped like towers. The interior combines glazed ceramic, trencadís, mosaics, wood, glass, metal and marble. The building exceeds 15,000 square metres and is covered by a metal canopy by Enrique Grasset measuring 24.5 metres in height, approximately 200 metres long and 45 metres wide, with a surface area of around 9,000 square metres. Beneath it are 10 railway lines.

Adif is restoring the building in three phases: the central vestibule, five central sections of the platform area, and finally the four remaining sections. The investment exceeds €20.7 million and is scheduled to finish in 2027; the station remains in operation during the works.

Adif does not publish any admission price for the building.

Opening hours

The station opens daily 05:20-00:00. Adif's information and customer service desk operates daily 07:00-21:00.

How to get there

It is at calle Xàtiva 24, next to the bullring and about 200 metres from the town hall. You have metro (lines 3, 5 and 9), local trains (C1, C2, C3, C5 and C6), bus stops on Castelló, Xàtiva and Bailén, and a taxi rank.

Worth visiting if…

…you are interested in Valencian modernism or iron-frame architecture: in a single 1917 building you see trencadís, mosaic and ceramic alongside a 24.5-metre metal canopy. Note that there will be construction work in some areas until 2027.
