What you will see
The MuVIM is the museum of the Diputació de València dedicated to ideas: it does not focus on objects, but on the values and thought that made the modern world possible, starting with the Enlightenment of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The Diputació opened it in 2001.
Its permanent exhibition, La Aventura del Pensamiento (The Adventure of Thought), works in an unusual way: it has no objects or explanatory texts, and the visit is supported by information technology. The museum also programmes temporary exhibitions on the contemporary world. In the foyer there is a model of eighteenth-century València as drawn by Father Tosca, and in the basement level the remains of a medieval tower are preserved.
How much it costs
Entry to the permanent exhibition is free, as are all the museum's other activities: lectures, concerts, film seasons and workshops. For the permanent exhibition you need to book in advance, which you can do by calling 96 388 37 30.
Opening hours
Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00–14:00 and 16:00–20:00. Sunday and public holidays, 10:00–20:00 with no midday closure.
How to get there
The official address is calle Quevedo, 10 and Guillem de Castro, 8 (46001 València).
Worth a visit if…
…you are interested in the history of ideas and fancy a visit without display cases or information boards. Ring beforehand to book the permanent exhibition: you cannot enter that section without a booking.
