What you will see
The Museu de les Ciències is the long white building in the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, designed by Santiago Calatrava and opened in November 2000. It has over 42,000 m² of built space, of which around 26,000 is exhibition space, and is designed for hands-on exploration rather than looking at display cases.
The current exhibitions announced on its website are:
- Astrociutat. El universo en imágenes, on the ground floor: images of the universe between art and science.
- Up to Space. Misión espacial, an immersive experience about how a journey to space is prepared.
- La Luna al alcance de tu mano, about lunar exploration.
- An exhibition on the Mediterranean that crosses science, art and culture.
- The Teatro de la Ciencia, with live demonstrations.
- L'Espai dels Xiquets, a zone only for children aged 3–8.
There is also the Bosque de cromosomas, an installation with the 23 pairs of human chromosomes and interactive modules. Temporary exhibitions rotate, so we recommend checking the official website before you go.
Cost
Entry to a single venue in the Ciutat, in this case the Museu, costs €8.90 general admission and €6.90 reduced, which applies to children aged 4–12, those over 65, pensioners and people with disabilities. Children under 3 do not pay. Those with a Carnet Jove or large or single-parent family card receive a 15% discount. If you also want to visit the Oceanogràfic, a combined ticket for both is only slightly more expensive than the aquarium alone.
Opening hours
Opening hours vary by calendar and the official website does not publish a fixed schedule: check before you go, on their website or when selecting a date to buy your ticket.
How to get there
It is at Avenida del Professor López Piñero, 7, next to the Hemisfèric and at the end of the Jardín del Turia. EMT bus lines 13, 14, 35 and 95 go to the complex. By metro, the nearest station is Alameda (line 5), a short walk along the old riverbed. From the city centre you can also walk or cycle through the garden itself, and there are bicycle parking facilities at the complex.
How much time you need and when to go
- The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències itself estimates around 3 hours, more or less depending on your interest in each exhibition.
- In high season, at weekends and public holidays we recommend buying your ticket in advance.
- The Hemisfèric is next door: if you want to see a session, fit it in before or after the museum.
