What you will see
Oceanogràfic brings together over 28,000 marine and freshwater animals from more than 780 species. The route is organised by habitat: Mediterranean, Wetlands with an aviary, Temperate and Tropical, Islands, Red Sea, Antarctic with penguins, Arctic with belugas, and Oceans, where there is an underwater tunnel surrounded by sharks. The visit is completed by the dolphinarium, the crocodile zone and the ARCA del Mar, the centre where rescued turtles and other marine fauna are recovered.
Dolphin presentations are included in the ticket price and take place several times a day at the Ágora del Mar, at set times published by the aquarium on its website each morning.
Cost
General adult entry costs between €35.90 and €43.05, depending on the date. Children aged 4 to 12, those over 65 and people with disabilities (33% or more) pay between €26.65 and €31.95. Children under 3 enter free with a valid document. Large families and single-parent families receive a 15% discount; students with a Carnet Jove and unemployed people resident in the region also get 15% off, but only at the ticket office.
The ticket we link to includes Oceanogràfic and Museu de les Ciències on the same day. Separately, the aquarium costs as stated above and entry to one venue in the City of Arts and Sciences (the Museu or the Hemisfèric) costs €8.90 (€6.90 reduced). The official combined ticket for both ranges from €37.70 to €45.40: between €1.80 and €2.35 more than Oceanogràfic alone.
Opening hours
It opens at 10:00 (on certain days at 12:00) and closing time depends on the calendar: between 16:00 and 22:00 depending on the day. Ticket offices close one hour before the aquarium, so we recommend checking the official calendar before you go.
How to get there
It is in the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, at the far end of the Jardín del Turia, on Carrer d'Eduardo Primo Yúfera, 1. By metro, line 10 of Metrovalencia stops at Oceanogràfic station. By bus, EMT lines 15 and 95 stop at the aquarium. There is a Valenbisi bike station and bike parking at the entrance, and from the city centre you can walk or cycle along the former riverbed. By car, underground parking costs €7 per day with entry (€8 in high season).
How long you need and when to go
- The City of Arts and Sciences itself estimates about 4 hours to tour Oceanogràfic.
- The ticket is valid for a single day, so if you go with the combined ticket we recommend starting at Oceanogràfic as soon as it opens and leaving the Museu for the afternoon.
- Plan your route around the dolphin presentations, which have set times.
- Check the day's programme on the aquarium's website: presentation times may change due to visitor numbers, weather or the condition of the animals.
