What you will see
The Hemisfèric was the first building in the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències to open, in April 1998. Santiago Calatrava designed it in the shape of an eye: an oval roof over 100 metres long reflected in a 24,000 m² pool. Inside is a single hall seating just over 300 people, with a concave 900 m² screen 24 metres in diameter.
The screen shows IMAX documentaries and 3D films, as well as planetarium sessions that reproduce the sky in real time. The programme changes throughout the year, so we recommend checking the official website to see what is on the day you visit. Films are available in Castilian, Valencian and English, and depending on the title also in French and Italian, with headsets handed out at the entrance to the hall.
How much it costs
Entry to a single venue in the Ciutat, which is what the Hemisfèric charges, is €8.90 general admission and €6.90 concessions, which apply to children aged 4–12, those over 65, pensioners and people with disabilities. Children under 3 do not pay. Holders of a Carnet Jove, large family card or single-parent family card receive a 15 % discount. One entry covers one session.
Opening hours
Sessions run at set times and opening hours vary by season. The timetable changes with the calendar and the official website does not publish a fixed one: check before you go and choose your session when you buy your ticket.
How to get there
It is at Avenida del Professor López Piñero, 3, between the Palau de les Arts and the Museu de les Ciències, at the far end of the Jardín del Turia. EMT bus lines 13, 14, 35 and 95 serve the complex. By metro, the nearest station is Alameda (line 5), a short walk along the old riverbed. From the centre you can also reach it on foot or by bike along the garden itself, and there are bike racks in the complex.
How long you need and when to go
- Each session lasts 45–50 minutes.
- The hall has limited capacity: in peak season, at weekends and on public holidays we recommend buying your ticket in advance.
- Arrive about 30 minutes before the show if you want to choose your seat.
- The Museu de les Ciències is right next door, so you can fit the session before or after visiting it.
