What you will see

The Institut Valencià d'Art Modern was established by law in 1986 and opened its València venue, the Centre Julio González, in 1989 in a building constructed for it. The main holdings of its collection are displayed here alongside temporary exhibitions.

The collection began in 1984 with works by Eduardo Arroyo, but its real foundation came in 1985, when the museum acquired 360 pieces by Julio González (Barcelona, 1876 – Arcueil, 1942): sculptures, drawings, metalwork, paintings and reliefs.

The other major name at the museum is Ignacio Pinazo (València, 1849 – Godella, 1916), with nearly 500 works on deposit including paintings, panels and drawings. In 2024 these returned to their original room, a space of 1,000 m². The museum also preserves a 68-metre stretch of medieval wall in what is called the Sala de la Muralla (Wall Room).
