What you will see

The Devesa is the coastal forest of the Albufera Natural Park, known locally in València as «la pinada» (the pine wood), although it is not only pines. It forms part of the 30 kilometres of sandy coastline that separate the new mouth of the Turia from Cullera, the northern and southern boundaries of the park. Behind the beach are the dunes: they once exceeded 10 metres in height but today reach at most 6, because the Devesa Urbanisation Project of 1970 flattened them in a few years. A social movement with the slogan «El Saler per al poble» (The Saler for the people) halted that development, and the LIFE Duna and LIFE Enebro projects later worked on their restoration.

Among the pines you will find the malladas, temporary Mediterranean lagoons that flood with winter rain and dry out completely in summer.

The town council proposes six trails:

  • Botánico (botanical): 800 metres, 45 minutes, through Pla de la Sanxa, south of Gola de El Pujol.
  • De los sentidos (sensory): about 300 metres, about 20 minutes, from Camí Vell through Tallafoc de la Rambla.
  • Histórico. El Saler (historical. El Saler): about 600 metres, about 30 minutes, from the village to Muntanyar de la Mona.
  • Histórico. Gola de Pujol (historical. Gola de Pujol): about 730 metres, about 40 minutes, along the gola to the sluice gates.
  • Lúdico por la playa (recreational by the beach): about 2,000 metres, about 45 minutes, along the promenade Fco. Lozano.
  • Paisajístico (landscape): about 4,000 metres, 1 hour 45 minutes, along Camí Vell which once linked València with El Perellonet.
